Teacher quits job to start coconut oil business

When Erin Meager decided to quit her teaching job four years ago, some may have thought she was nuts.

?My classes were accounting, I had an entrepreneur class, I had a public speaking class and Microsoft office,? said Meagher, founder of Kelapo Coconut Oil.

But over time she realized that while she enjoyed teaching, it was not her lifelong dream. She decided to go for it, with a little help from her students.

?It was kind of at the urging of my students a little,? Meagher said, ?who said, you?re so passionate and you?re telling us to do it. Why don?t you do it and I was like maybe, maybe.? ?

In time, the maybes turned to brainstorming and that?s when she found her idea.

?I came across coconut oil a short time later and really started reading the benefits and how it helps with your health and tastes really good and I knew I had something here,? Meagher said.

And after eight months of planning, she founded Kelapo Coconut Oil products. ?

?Coconut oil is for cooking and baking. Anything you would normally use butter or vegetable oil on you replace with coconut oil,? she said.

The Kelapo products come in gel capsules, baking sticks, spreadable oil and coconut cooking spray. You can most likely find them at one of your local health food stores.

In August, Kelapo products will be sold at Publix GreenWise supermarkets.
